ABSTRACT

Recently various institutions have tried to revive the old idea of a common Nordic identity in music. Such was the theme of the Scandinavian festival held in Berlin in 1994. And in a new music festival—arranged within the framework of the Nordic Music Festival—the organizers want to contribute to an active definition of ‘Nordicness’ as distinct from the rest of the world. According to the festival brochure it seems that it’s particularly Nordic to alter the perception of time. The goal is to increase awareness of a supposed ‘Nordic way of thingking’.
