ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the academic literature related to media industry financial research over the past ten years. Financial restructuring, with particular emphasis on divestitures (i.e., sell-offs and spin-offs), is discussed as one of the newer areas on which media academics have focused. Additional media finance topics included in the chapter are: business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, capital structure and dividend policy. The chapter’s review of literature interweaves the research work of media and traditional corporate finance academics and concludes with ideas for future media finance research.
