ABSTRACT

In post-resolution South Africa the analysis of urban segregation and desegregation faces new problems and challenges. Not only is there a gradual shift in direction from segregation to desegregation, but the official classification of the population into 'races' and 'ethnic groups' has been nullified by new legislation. In addition, the spatial mix of races and ethnic groups has been lowered in the order of priority of the new government in relation to the transfer of political and economic power and the breaking down of class structures.
