ABSTRACT
The sustainable development of industry should be investigated on the assumption of a symbiotic relationship between industry and the preservation of the natural environment. Industrial development has strongly influenced natural and socio-cultural conditions throughout the globe. However, geographic variations in the formation of regional industrial systems have varying implications for sustainable paths in different areas. This chapter addresses the Japanese case, especially with respect to the urban industrial dynamics occurring within the heart of Tokyo.
