ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the history of three acting methodologies that are rooted in a Black American cultural aesthetic. Providing a concise, albeit thorough introduction and history of practitioners such as Frank Silvera, Barbara Ann Teer, and Freddie Hendricks, this chapter connects their acting methodologies to the Black Acting Methods® movement, helmed by Luckett. Finally, readers will gain a firm grasp of how the practitioner’s work is in conversation with Afrocentricity and Black Acting Methods: Critical Approaches, a book edited by Luckett and Tia M. Shaffer.
