ABSTRACT

Brio, the journal of the UK and Ireland Branch of international association of music libraries (IAML), is so much a part of Branch life that it is, with the Newsletter, the only point of contact for some people. It was not always thus, for it was some little while after the foundation of the Branch, the subject of the present celebrations, before a journal appeared. Walter Stock returned to the subject of 'the urgent need for a branch magazine' in a memorandum submitted to the committee on 4 October 1961, proposing that it should cover the following topics: reports of meetings; major items of bibliography; general topics, for example, new libraries; articles by members; etc. In 1972, there was a meeting with the Sound Recordings Group (SRG) of the Library Association to discuss the future of Brio in conjunction with that of the SRG Newsletter.
