ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the issue of workers’ security in the country. It explores the issue of labor wage and its impacts on workers’ security. The chapter provides an examination of labor unionization and its impacts on workers’ security, and presents an examination of labor policy, especially the existing labor law and its impacts on labor relations particularly those related to security. Wage has always been one of the most contentious problems and a major political issue in Indonesian labor relations. Its impacts not only affect the process of industrialization but also the issue of national security. From the vantage point of the state, the wage policy is created to provide a guarantee of security for Indonesian workers, namely by improving their standard of living and of income. The chapter discusses some of the most crucial issues in the law that are likely to have a direct impact on the security of Indonesian workers.
