ABSTRACT

The survival o f the modem nation-state is becoming more questionable than ever before. In many parts o f the world, especially in Europe and Africa, movements or agitations for the disintegration o f existing or erstwhile sovereign national entities have become stronger and more menacing. At the root o f the turmoil is an apparent dissatisfaction with or dysfunctionality o f the economic and political arrangements that glue these nation states together since many o f them are products o f unsolicited federalism.
