ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a reflection on the technology of screens and their effect on society. Information, Communication and Knowledge form an inseparable complex because they are crucial components in all the symbolic processes of our species. Information and Communication Technologies must be taken together as Knowledge Technologies. The conceptual and political neglect of the importance of knowledge has serious effects, turning media into technologies of ignorance. Knowing is acting and to the extent that the societies of the Global South are committed to the development of their own knowledge processes, the possibility of generating changes for the collective well-being is opened up.
