ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we attempt to integrate the literature on creative climate and creative problem-solving. To do so, we explore the dimensionality of creative climate to reveal a five-dimensional taxonomy composed of perceptions of (a) work autonomy and stimulation, (b) positive peer exchange, (c) leader direction and encouragement, (d) organizational capacity and support, and (e) organizational integration and extension. As a primary thrust of the chapter, we apply a process view of creative problem-solving and discuss how the climate dimensions are differentially related to the eight processes comprising creativity. In doing so, we propose that some dimensions of climate play a stronger role with each of the processes than others. Practical and theoretical implications are discussed along with avenues for future research.
