ABSTRACT

In 1961, the Swedish author, Eva Moberg, wrote an article entitled, "The Conditional Release of the Woman", which is now one of the key texts in the history of the women's movement in Sweden. 1 Moberg admonished that the freedom of women will remain conditional as long as women are primarily seen as reproductive objects and as the servants of the human race. Moberg urged that the tremendously heavy social, physical and psychological burdens of motherhood be shared by mothers, fathers and society.
