Western and Central Europe ² is home or host to some 40 million international migrants (Table 15.1), about 8 per cent of its population. In absolute terms, Europe’s immigrant population is about the same size as the number of immigrants in the United States. ³ Europe has become one of the main destinations on the world map of international migration.
