ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the arts and literacy across the curriculum. It includes viable classroom strategies to enhance literacy learning across content areas, particularly those integrating the arts with literacy development, and those that help students make connections with what they are reading and what they already know, cooperative learning in small groups, the use of multiple types of texts such as adult literature, children’s and young adult literature, and print and nonprint media, and active engagement with any text, particularly through drama, so that students themselves bring life to texts and texts to life.
