ABSTRACT

As explained at the outset (Chapter 1), this book is the product of a workshop, held at St Antony's College Oxford, October 19-20, 2001, on Social Policy Reform in Socialist Market China: the Scope for Lessons For and From Abroad. But, as was also implied, the project was intended to function as part of a broader and longer term comparative social policy endeavour, in respect of both China in particular and Asia Pacific in general. At this stage, therefore, it is worth reflecting on possible next steps. 1
