ABSTRACT

Musical performance is "sociality in sound" N. Cook says, pointing to a post-structural view of listeners as co-creators of musical meaning. American composer Roger Reynolds has written several books concerning music and its societal context. Since the availability of affordable computers, composers have considered the roles such machines could play as collaborators/partners in music making. Musical aptitude may be distinct from other creative aptitude or general cognitive ability. Long term skin conductance measures can be made and these can reveal attentional shifts during music creation, at least in the short term. The Ancient Greeks viewed creativity as a gift of the muses, an instantaneous contribution of the Gods: Sometimes Mozart's compositions are thought comparably immediate. The music is sounded at the same time frame it is conceived. Collaboration is routine in improvisation: Improvisers respond fluently to unpredicted events. The composer provides modules that are either triggered by aspects of game progress or arranged adaptively by the video producer.
