ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the lead-lag model to the situation in the Uddevalla local labour market region and analyses the structure and the development of the private sector in the region during the period 1990-1999. One fundamental hypothesis within the field of spatial industrial dynamics is the idea that in most countries it is possible to identify a limited number of leading urban regions. Forslund & Johansson have introduced a model of spatial industrial dynamics in the time and space hierarchy of functional urban regions. The focus of the new method is to provide a qualitative picture of the composition and the development of the industrial structure in each region. The chapter also analyses the employment changes in the private sector industries in the Uddevalla region during the period 1990-1999. The total private sector employment has decreased somewhat less than in the country as a whole.
