ABSTRACT

Mitteldeutsche Druck- und Verlagshaus GmbH & Co. KG (MDVH) has been active in environmental protection since the beginning of the 1990s. When they demolished the building, in which the printing took place during the time of the German Democratic Republic, they did this in an as environmentally friendly way as possible. MDVH has been active in environmental protection since the beginning of the 1990s. To implement Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), the management set up an environmental commission which consisted of representatives from the environmentally crucial units of MDVH and the works council, plus a safety representative and an environmental manager. The quantitative impact of EMAS on the environment is difficult to measure, because MDVH has increased its production and so consumption has also increased. At Hamburg Airport, EMAS is not one specific environmental protection project, but is embedded in a long history of environmental protection.
