ABSTRACT

The chapter focuses on the Ten Year Development Programme (1946-1956), published in Cyprus in October 1946. The Plan, provided for approximately £6,000,000 initially, for a wide range of development purposes. The funds would originate with the Colonial Development Fund (about 2 million pounds), from loans from the Public Loans Fund and funding raised in the London Money Market. This chapter is an early effort to examine the mechanics of the British Colonial Administration response to the challenges posed by the radical change of climate towards colonialism in the post-war world.
