ABSTRACT

Despite being of similar ethnic cultural backgrounds to Singaporeans and in spite of spending their formative years in the nation-state, this chapter points out that university-going international students face anti-foreign sentiment in Singapore. The 61 international students surveyed for this chapter however are not deterred by the tensions they feel harboured by the local citizenry. Instead, as this chapter reveals, international students develop strategies in order to respond to any real or perceived xenophobia and racism they may face in Singapore.
