ABSTRACT

The energy system in the UK and beyond is undergoing processes of profound change, not only in terms of the available supply technologies but also in terms of the social structures that define aspects of ownership, operation and governance within the system. Hastened by the climate change mitigation imperative, the general trend is towards more sustainable forms of energy production; that is, ones less dependent on fossil fuel-based technologies and thus less impactful in terms of GHG emissions and other pollutants (Mitchell 2016).
