ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the concepts of information integration, execution models and stakeholder perspectives. It utilizes four case projects to showcase attempts to increase the level of information integration and strengthen project execution in construction projects. The word 'integration' can have different meanings when related to building and construction industries: integration of building and construction processes; integration of construction technologies; integration of information technology components; and integration of data or information. A stakeholder perspective on project management requires an understanding of the objectives of the various stakeholders. Numerous stakeholders are involved in Architecture, engineering and construction projects. This includes the owners, the executive parties and the users. The chapter also explores opportunities and challenges of systematically managing construction projects. The challenges regarding information exchange increase with the number of stakeholders involved and with demands for early involvement of end-users. The chapter concludes with providing suggestions for future research and investment priority areas.
