ABSTRACT

Historical zooarchaeological research has been developing for the last four decades. During that time, these studies have addressed several issues in different historical moments and multiple contexts, from the contact of native groups and Europeans to the adoption of animals as pets. This chapter aims to present the more recent and innovative approaches in the last two decades, focusing on the most relevant topics discussed, considering the work of researchers from different regions of the world and working with different methodological and theoretical approaches.
