ABSTRACT

The psychosomatic skills are probably the most affected by exercise physiology, especially those regarding relaxation and activation. Usually, in the western world, most gymnastics coaches do not have specialized degrees in exercise physiology, but have degrees either in physical education or in the sport sciences and know basic principles for strength, speed, power and flexibility training. Exercise has profound effects, especially once it has terminated. There is a great feeling of relaxation and relief after an extensive period of intensive effort. If gymnasts can learn to relax or physiologically activate themselves, either physically or through mental processes, they may have a chance of greater achievements in gymnastics. However, the psychological dimensions drive gymnasts to work hard, do strength and flexibility training, set goals, keep self-confidence and remain committed, usually through the influences of family, peers and good coaches.
