ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the challenges faced by South Africa's economic sector in addressing corporate takeovers and how the country's transformation policies intersect with this process. It outlines the nature of accountability and the challenges faced by the country's economic cluster in enhancing South Africa's economic system. Corporate takeover depend on how business organizations incorporate politics and respond to what government does to deliberately and unintentionally promote or discourage business from becoming bigger. South Africa's apartheid legislation categorized its nationals along four racial groups: White, "Colored", Indian, and Black. South Africa remains a regional economic power bloc with significant influence and impact in the region's geo-political dynamics. Multinational corporations in South Africa generally define the nature of the country's corporate takeovers, mergers, and acquisitions. The shareholder model is bound to play a significant role in influencing business and labor policy owing to African National Congress (ANC) recent tendency of co-opting the private sector in its election campaigns and other political activities.
