ABSTRACT

Building technology is not only about engineering, but encompasses everything that the building industry needs to produce buildings and other artifacts that form our physical environment. Building technology is as much about finance as about robotics. Building technology is not only about the building industry’s needs, but also about the needs of all the industries that supply the building industry both directly and indirectly. Because of the pervasive economic interdependence, building technology is as much about agriculture as about finance. The greater the level of economic development, the less will building technology be distinguishable from all the others. This implies an ever greater responsibility on the part of those engaged in the building industry for the totality of products that form our built environment. The building industry row contains only maintenance and repair flows to other industries, whereas the new products of the industry go to final demand.
