ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the contribution of learner corpus research to the study of two types of formulaic expressions, namely collocations and lexical bundles. It sums up some of the key findings related to frequency of use, accuracy and appropriacy, L1 transfer, and development. Special attention is paid to aspects of research design that have a strong impact on the results, in particular the quantitative measures used to identify multiword units and assess their degree of significance.
