ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a class analysis of sex work based on Richard Wolff and Stephen Resnick's New Marxist Class Theory. Sexual labor is the expenditure of time, effort, and energy utilizing brain, muscle, and emotion to fulfill someone else's sexual needs. Sexual labor and emotional labor can be performed within the slave class process. The slave class process entails ownership of the life and labor of another human being. The chapter applies New Marxian class analysis to two modern forms of sex work in the US One exemplifies the independent class process and the other, the communal class process. Both reflect America's changing attitudes toward sexuality. Women who work in the sugar arrangements industry are performing their labor in the independent class process. They negotiate the terms of their own employment jointly with their sugar daddies and are paid well for their labor.
