ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 asserts that a modern concert will have to be based on a wide range of conceptions of what constitutes a just and good order. The authors argue that two principles will be critical to achieving a sustainable order for the coming power shift in world politics: the toleration of domestic political and ideological diversity, and a dedication to respecting and protecting state sovereignty. After drawing lessons from the European Concert for a 21st Century Concert, the chapter concludes with an examination of the feasibility of such a project in light of Donald Trump’s ascendency to the American presidency.
