ABSTRACT
Industrial decline in rural communities nationally and internationally is widespread and well researched (Renkow, 2003; Ryser & Halseth, 2010; Schaeffer & Loveridge, 2000). While attention has focussed on loss of industrial jobs that are primarily done by men and the consequences, a more recent study has paid attention to changes in women’s circumstances and the family (Latimer & Oberhauser, 2004; McDonald et al., 2012; Sherman, 2009).
