ABSTRACT

As discussed by other authors in this volume, Eudaimonia is a quest for satisfaction or a sense of accomplishment which helps us feel a sense of purpose in our lives. Digital realms have been locales where often people can feel disconnected, disoriented, even attacked. Thus, our quest is to help both people and organizations have an ethical framework by which to understand digital technology and makes decisions regarding that digital technology.

We propose a form of digital citizenship, wherein participants in digital technology not only can exercise the tremendous freedom that currently exists but also understand that with any freedom come some responsibilities. A framework of Eudaimonia would help us to see the larger picture of using digital technology, including how these tools can be used for good, and what ways in which use of these tools may also harm people.

A eudemonic framework also encourages that individuals and organizations are authentic. In others works we are offline who we are online, and that also often means also being transparent, honest, and open.

Finally, a eudemonic approach often includes a striving for excellence and finding high values and ideals, which could mean behaving with civility, trying to encourage others, and also being the best version of ourselves possible, whether represented in digital spaces or not.
