Organisation and objectives book
This chapter explores the wide diversity of business archive services and how they are run and organized, and demonstrates that there is no single best practice model. The most obvious location for a business archive is within the parent company itself. In many ways a business archive sitting within a charitable trust is similar to an in-house service, as the collection will, primarily, be that of the founding company and the company will also be one of the major clients of the trust, and perhaps the only one. It is vital to retain a good working relationship with the former parent organisation as it will, usually, be the major funder of the trust. Archive services may be expected to conform to their organisation's governance principles and to echo these in their own objectives. A little creativity may be needed for an archive to reflect the annual objectives of a manufacturing company where production and the customer are the key focus.
