ABSTRACT

It is important to understand the criminal environment, as this can be used to inform crime prevention activity. Criminal intelligence work provides useful, accurate, timely, and actionable advice for police operations, including prevention programmes and investigations. Crime analysts, therefore, perform a vital role in assisting the police to tackle property crime. This chapter will outline the various analytical roles undertaken by crime analysts to support the investigation and prosecution of property-related offences. Intelligence processes and models are explained and strategies for maximising the influence of intelligence are discussed. This chapter promotes strategies for removing barriers between analysts and investigators to further facilitate intelligence work.
