ABSTRACT

This chapter uses a model developed in the Helsinki University of the Arts to analyze the competencies required for artists working outside the conventional performance using material of autoethnographic origin, participant and nonparticipant observation, and interviews from three musician/teacher projects. These include contextual, pedagogic, artistic/creative, research, social, project management, and marketing competencies, which include social, personal, cognitive, and ethical strands. It will draw on three contrasted projects involving musician/teacher cooperation—two in the UK and one in Greece.
