ABSTRACT
This brief chapter introduces the book’s transdisciplinary approach to race and its role in science and society. It frames the book’s concerns in terms of one seminal essay—Richard Lewontin’s 1972 article: “The Apportionment of Human Diversity”—and three main themes: (1) indigeneity and colonialism, (2) the reality of race, and (3) race and biomedicine.
