Reflections on the theory and practice of intersectionality

This chapter analyses critical research on public health and immigration conducted in Brazil through a feminist postcolonial perspective. This analysis demonstrates the importance of considering the social context, as well as past colonial discourses, for the understanding of ‘Othering’ processes within the intersections between gender, race, class, age and sexuality. This debate highlights key issues for social work, public policies and health care provision.
