ABSTRACT

As cities continue to grow at unprecedented rates, governments are turning to digital technologies to more efficiently manage the strains of growing populations on urban infrastructure, city resources, and services. But as digital networks are almost imperceptibly woven into the urban landscape, and certain elements of cyber urbanism become increasingly complex and globalized, so do the challenges of e-governance and online civic participation. To better understand digital governance and participation in everyday urban life, this chapter explores both the possibilities and challenges that become characteristic of today’s cyber urbanism.
