ABSTRACT

Why Integrate? n simplest terms, integration takes place when two or more disciplines are taught together in order to make explicit the multidimensional nature of concepts and to make connections between and among the concepts. In

doing so, an integrated curriculum facilitates conceptual learning instead of learning facts in isolation and fragmenting content. Such an approach allows students to apply the content, skills, and processes to think about, discuss, and solve real-life problems and situations. Integration is an attempt at making learning meaningful in authentic contexts, to mirror the complexity of the world in students’ learning. Learning experiences should enable students to fully understand how they are situated in the world and to apply their understandings in their day-to-day lives.
