ABSTRACT

This chapter aims at stimulating a cultural discussion of contemporary industrial production that is more socially oriented, connecting people and their creative skills and activities while also taking advantage of the digital revolution. "Digital Arts and Crafts" is a derivation of the Arts and Crafts Movement, which was a cultural and artistic movement started in England in the second half of the nineteenth century. Web-Site/Web-House is a conceptual work that focuses on integrating the principles of mass customization into housing by connecting a small group of people in order to make the housing process more affordable and highly customizable. Indi is a customizable cantilever chair whose shape enables not only vertical but also horizontal swinging thanks to the separation of the seat from the back of the chair. The designers also developed a transportable tool called "Die Sitzmaschine" that was used as a physical configurator on which to gather body measurements to transport into the digital model.
