ABSTRACT

Karin was offered coaching by her workplace. She worked in a public organisation and was part of a team that was responsible for placing artworks in different public spaces such as conference rooms, corridors, and staff rooms. During the assessment, it became clear that the stress Karin was experiencing was connected to situations when people become angry and upset because they disliked the artwork she was delivering. She explained that the artworks would quite often steer strong reactions. When the coach inquired more about Karin’s reactions, she started to reflect on the fact that she blamed herself when others got angry and upset and saw this as a proof that she had not done a good job. She wanted to learn to accept the fact that people’s reactions did not automatically mean that she had failed at her job. Karin also realised that she needed more support from her employer.
