ABSTRACT

The title was my own choice but it is a challenging one. The hospice movement is a kaleidoscope, not a neat package with a well set out destination. Indeed, we do not all use the same title. We respond locally, yet in spite of that, we have national and international recognition, impact and commitments. We have to answer to need with scientific and professional rigor knit together with personal compassion and yet we constantly have to worry about funds. We are a collection of very varied teams and individuals, continually on a learning curve. I have no crystal ball nor guide to the future, only some principles and hopes that as we began by paying attention to dying people, their families and the staff caring for them, so we will go on.
