ABSTRACT

The primary purpose was to obtain a comprehensive and detailed description of the components—physical, behavioral, perceptual, cognitive, emotional, social, and others— contained in strong experiences related to music, and to explore the “causes” of such experiences and their consequences for the individual. Strong Experiences of Music reports on Folk music mention a large number of Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish folk musicians, performing on the violin, the key harp, accordion, sometimes cow horn, especially female singers who use special singing styles with much ornamentation of the melodic line, stemming from local traditions. For instance, a woman was scared by extremely loud, avant-garde organ music, and another woman the first time she listened to electronic music on the radio. Musical preferences belong to many different genres: classical music, pop/rock, jazz, folk music, popular music, and others.
