ABSTRACT

An intriguing solitaire game consists of a triangular array of holes together with pegs that can be inserted and removed. The symbol ⊗ represents a peg, and the symbol ○ is a hole. Moves consist of jumping one peg over a neighboring peg into a vacant hole and removing the peg jumped over. The moves are similar to jumping in checkers. Neighboring pegs are those pegs which are the minimal distance apart; a peg has at most six neighboring pegs. The idea of the game is to reduce the number of pegs on the board as far as possible. Two different players can compare their skill by seeing which player can reduce the game to the fewest pegs. The game can be varied by starting with the initial hole in different places, by starting with more than one vacancy, or by playing on a board with a larger or smaller number of holes.
