ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the development of a new method of knowledge communication where the work of the scientist is the core of the knowledge that is used in the communication. Knowledge management is important for many organizations. The National Institute for Health and Environment in the Netherlands is a governmental office that benefits people, society, and the environment, matching their expertise, knowledge, and research with that of colleagues from around the world. The first case involved implementing a page on the Internet about standards for risks of substances. The risk standards were established by different authorities, and it was very difficult to determine whether a substance was included among these standards. Since publishing the standards for substances, more Excel tables were found to be suitable for publishing on an intranet site. The secretary’s office is mainly responsible for these Excel tables, but other employees also offered tables to publish on the intranet.
