ABSTRACT

Bringing together insights from the earlier chapters of this book and empirical work on archaeological information work in the context of the ARKDIS research project, this chapter seeks to propose a more systematic understanding of contemporary archaeological information work. Building on systems thinking, a Gibsonian ecological approach and the work of Pickering and Stengers, the chapter proposes a model of an archaeological information process based on the metaphor of making and taking information rather than that of a flow of information from producers to users.
