ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the development of laws and norms that can alter behaviors in and outside of cyberspace. It reveals the sheer complexity of defining an international governance framework for a new domain, be it outer space or cyberspace. The book examines a variety of concepts for engaging and improving national security practices in cyberspace. It highlights the unique character of cyberspace: a man-made and near instantaneous domain where actors can use digital means to hide their identity. The book provides insights into cybersecurity through leveraging an analogy to epidemiology, another field known for rapid responses to invasive and damaging pathogens. It also examines the evolving nature of intelligence in cyberspace. The book further examines how organizational structures can foster trust and cooperation, both between states and within states.
