ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the historical and conceptual overlap between cross-domain deterrence (CDD) and cybersecurity. The authors explain how CDD both constrains and enables threats in cyberspace. Whilst CDD has been important throughout history, cyberspace provides new opportunities to refine our understanding of this concept and its use. The chapter analyzes the combinatory logic of substitutes and complements inherent in cybersecurity to explore the effects of complexity and uncertainty on CDD.
