ABSTRACT

Class relations refer to inequalities in the distribution of power and in principles of control between social groups which are realised in the creation, distribution, reproduction and legitimation of physical and symbolic values which have their source in the social division of labour. The first step towards filling out the entailed relationships is to define codes, and the second step will be to derive from that definition propositions which will facilitate the defining of specific codes. Basic to the mode of production and modality of education are categories and practices which are regulated by the principles of a social division of labour and its internal social relations. The positioning of the subject creates the voice of the subject but not the specific message. Framing refers to the principle regulating communicative practices of the social relations within the reproduction of discursive resources; that is, between transmitters and acquirers. At the most abstract level power constitutes relations between and control relations within.
