ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book summarizes vision of ALARA and its learning conferences and future perspectives, to foster capacity for reflective practice in learning communities, learning organizations and a learning society. It offers critical reflections on the learning that the authors have presented, particularly through understanding and practice of the learning conference concept. The book discusses learning is a holistic, lifelong concept and should be developed through a learner-centred, self-directed approach rather than a teacher- or curriculum-centred approach to education and higher education. It has gathered contributions from international scholars in lifelong action learning and participatory action learning and action research who all have argued convincingly that it is the values, worldviews, ethics, context and theoretical and educational principles that underpin practical applications, processes and methods to be used.
