ABSTRACT

The matrix or the initial and primitive sequence of a cinematographic work frequently holds the key to understanding the underlying function of the entire film. The preliminary images of [REC] present systematic features that will define the [REC] corpus. A brief analysis highlights what it considers to be some of the reoccurring elements of the series that continues to develop. Logically, the film begins with the logo of the production company Filmax (Filmax presenta) on a black background in the usual format except that the image jumps as if there were some sort of technical glitch with the film or projector. The chapter selects a fragment of [REC] that takes place from the beginning through minute nine. Martos, a GEO (Special Operations Group) member, is looking for survivors and is filming in the building before he is attacked and infected by a Colombian girl and murdered by Mire, an adolescent.
