ABSTRACT

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents aged 15–19. Correcting the myths surrounding suicide, raising awareness of risk factors, and widely disseminating information regarding available resources provide the foundation for much-needed prevention efforts. This chapter further illustrates: (a) the implementation of evidence-based suicide prevention efforts in high school settings; (b) the integration of these prevention efforts into a three-tier system of mental health supports with examples given at each tier; and (c) the identification of practical tools for teachers and take home ideas for parents in suicide awareness and prevention.
